Upcoming events

Assuming LaGuardia isn't buried under several inches of plane-immobilizing snow, I'm speaking tomorrow at Georgia Tech's "Journalism 3G" symposium. Details here.

And next weekend I'll be at Mount Holyoke College for their Future in Communications conference. (Also keynoting the conference is the lovely and intelligent Priscilla Painton, who I had the good fortune to meet when she was still at Time. Even Gawker likes her!)

Three Professional Comedians and an Ersatz Online Humorist Walk Into a Comedy Club

As previously mocked on Gawker, I'm part of the January 23rd Fresh Meat show at Comix, with Annabelle Gurwitch, David Rakoff and Jessi Klein. I've done humor readings before--John Hodgman's sadly-on-hiatus Little Gray Book Lectures, Lindsay Robertson's fantastic Ritalin Readings, etc.--but this is more along the lines of straight stand-up (I saw part of the last show and Louis CK and Colin Quinn randomly popped in for short sets) which I've never done. It should be interesting. Unless, you know, Stephen Colbert randomly pops in and I have to follow him, in which case I plan to kill myself on stage. Either way, HILARIOUS.

Tickets are available here for $10. (No drink minimums.)

Update: Jonathan Ames has just been added to the lineup. I'm totally screwed.

Out of Town

My weekends are mostly shot for the rest of the month and beginning of November. Some immediate work-related events, if anyone happens to be in the area(s): I'm speaking at the Idea Festival in Louisville, Kentucky on October 14th on a panel about futurism and "what the world will look like 2106." (I'll be in town late Friday through Sunday morning.) I'll be at MARhedge in Bermuda Sunday, October 22 - Tuesday, October 24 for Dealbreaker. And on November 3rd, I'm moderating a "Women on Wall Street" panel at Wharton.

If You're in the Neighborhood Random Hotel Ballroom

alphamag.jpgThis is relevant to almost no one who reads this site, but on the offchance...

Institutional Investor asked me to emcee their Alpha hedge fund dinner tonight at the Battery Park Ritz. Which makes sense, as I TOTALLY KILLED last week at the Chicago Board of Exchange.** Ah, the opportunities in the little-known financial comedy sector. Take my risk arbitrage, please. Or something.

** Not really.
